Born in Lyon, François Bel is an artist with multiple facets. Equally at ease in painting, sculpture or in the establishment of facilities, he shows a work as eclectic as his inspirations.
François Bel was rocked by the street art from which it borrows the system of repetition and declination in which the artist is interested as much in the so-called movement of « new realism » in which he recognizes himself, like Dada or Pop-Art, that divert everyday objects with the image of Duchamp’s readymades.
While working in turns with nylon thread to its suspension and the wire for his sculptures, François Bel masters each material. Playing on the idea of partitioning, enclosing some of his sculptures in the fence, the artist once again denounces contemporary society, both in its individuality and in its materialism. Thus each medium is both an artistic and a philosophical approach.
His little « Big Bang » embedded in the in synthetic crystal, cooked in oven, cut and polished, as if frozen in the moment of ultimate grace of the explosion, ask us about the time that undeniably goes by and burns out. His others sculptures inlay in synthetic crystal were presented along with watches from reknown parisian jewelers of Place Vendôme.
In his Blue or Pink Spray also inlay in synthetic crystal, the bright colors are reminiscent of the compressions of Caesar.
In a society where everything goes more and more faster, and where man controls many things, the artist François Bel crystallizes everyone’s dream, stopping a moment of time in his works.
